Using listerine on your face?

I read a few websites where people have suggested using Listerine as a face wash for acne and blemishes. I had acne as a child and still have quite a few breakouts every now and then. No matter what I do, whether I never touch my face, wash 3 times a day, use topical medicines, whatever, any zit I get WILL leave a mark.

I had never thought about using Listerine on my face and was wondering if anyone has tried it, how to use it and if there are any side effects. Please let me know. Does this really work? Thanks!

Using listerine on your face?
use it with a cotton ball.

but then when you are done, let your face dry, don't touch it, and then when it's all dry it might be red [[depends on the sensitivity of your face]] you put a ''sensitive skin lotion'' on your face.
Reply:NOOOOOO!!! Don't!!!! Listerine is complete alcohol. You've read how your not supposed to use rubbing alcohol as an astringent right? Well, Listerine is practically just as bad! It'll leave your skin desert dry, tight, and super-red. You'll also break out even more because your skin will create even more oil to compensate for the dryness you're creating. I can't offer you a solution, but just don't use Listerine on your face.
Reply:Some of the chemicals in Listerine are not exactly what you want ot put on your face. There are a few options to try before giving your face a minty-fresh odor. 1) Cut dairy out of your diet, 2) keep your hands away from your face at all times, and 3) use a face wash with Vitamin C in it. I have a situation similar to yours and these three measures have helped me tremendously.
Reply:It would be best to get an astringent such as "Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent" to use on your face. It contains salisylic acid which is an ingredient in most acne medicine. But the very best way to clear up your skin is from the inside.....go to the Dr. and get a prescription. Also, drink lots of water and avoid lots of junk food.

Good luck!
Reply:Listerine is an antiseptic, so it would be of some help. It may sting a bit, since it's about 21% alcohol (not even CLOSE to being "complete alcohol.") I suppose your face might smell like Listerine, though!

One thing I do use Listerine for is for minor cuts and scrapes if I happen to be out of hydrogen peroxide.
Reply:I dont know but let me know if it does! lol
Reply:Oh my! The alcohol content is probably why listerine was suggusted as it has a drying effect. I don't know if listerine is the best for your face though. It has flavoring and sugars most likely that would clog your pores. If you would try rubbing alcohol that would have the same drying effect without all the other clogging uneccessary ingredients. Hope this helps.
