Fleas on my cats face?

my cat has a LOT of fleas. especially on his face and in his ears. he's losing fur on his head going into his ears.

we've given him a LOT of flea baths, flea collars, and flea medications. NOTHING seems to work. they're only getting worse and they're spreading to our puppy.

i can't really wash his face because he's already VERY violent in the shower. i just tried to wipe his face with a wet q-tip and just that was nearly impossible. he's a sweet kitty, just hates water with a passion.

anyway, any more tips before getting him checked out?

Fleas on my cats face?
Flea collars don't work at all. Flea baths will kill any fleas that are on the cat but will not keep more fleas from jumping on your cat. What kinds of flea medications are you using? Have you tried Frontline Plus or Revolution? They are more expensive but they actually work. Also, it sounds like you may have fleas in your house and/or yard. You have to treat those areas, as well.

It's not a good idea to overload cats, or dogs, with too much flea control. It is a pesticide and can make animals sick if they're exposed to too much. If you have just given your cat a bath, wait a day or two before applying anything else to him.
Reply:Get him checked out. The vet has medication that'll keep the fleas off him and the puppy (take him in, too).

You might have to have a professional Pest Control person come in and do your place. The fleas don't die, they jump into the carpet.
Reply:Cats and water is a very delicate situation. Since you have tried what seems to be like everything and it hasn't helped, and I really don't think that you'll be able to find anything for her for her face, my best suggestion (and probably least expensive in the long run) would be to have a vet check her out and maybe prescribe something for her. I think that this would be your (and her) best bet.
Reply:When i rescued my Kitten I was unable to get flea stuff that night. So I sat down with a pair of tweezers and plucked them off. VERY CAREFULLY.
Reply:Cats don't like baths, but with all the flea treatments and still nothing helps, you should take him to a vet.Seems like you've done all you could, I once had a kitten who had fleas and all I did was put flea powder on his skin, right into his fur, and gave him a bath with flea shampoo, and got rid of them.Seems strange why you would have such a hard time with them, all I can suggest is a vet Good luck.
Reply:Try flea powder. Not collars, baths, or medication. The powder kills fleas and isn't as harmful or uncomfortable for your cat. Just try not to get it in his eyes.

If that doesn't work, get some tweezers and a small bowl of alcohol to drop the fleas in as you pick them off. It may be time-consuming, but it works.

Oh, never put a cat in the shower. Ever. If you bathe a cat it should be in a sink or bathtub. Showers make too much noise and it scares them, causing excessive violence.
Reply:Take your cat to the vet, there is an injectible for fleas problem.
Reply:if you go to the veterinary counter at Petsmart, they should have stronger flea shampoo that they do not sell over the counter. Also, you can take the cat to the groomers and they have fleea treatments that are stronger and will work. i would recommend taking the cat to a groomers or kennel that does grooming. if all else fails, you'll have to take them to the vet.
Reply:You need to get some frontline spray for the animals and a household spray (from the vet) to treat the carpets etc.Take special care in the corners, under furniture and around the skirting area as these are the dark places that the flea larvae like to hide in. Give the place a good dousing and go out ( it's not nice to breathe it)

Remember your animals will need to be wormed too as the fleas carry worms.
Reply:Find an Avon sales person, get some Skin So Soft bath oil. Put it heavy on your hands and just rub it all over the cat and dog. Be careful to keep it out of the eyes. I have used it in the ears before with a Qtip not deep into them just a little and wet the hair in there. I think you probably have a very bad infestation in your yard or house. You will probably need an exterminator. Keep your pets confined to a clean area and use the SSS oil every day until you get rid of the fleas. I have had to spay my yard before once and I bought this stuff at Kmart along with a hose sprayer that you could adjust the liquid to different strenghths.

after you take care of the house and yard you should ask the vet about a treatment for Heartworm. They have a very tiny pill you give the dog just once a month and it takes care of all kinds of worms and insects. The dogs love it like candy. Don't know about cats. Ask your vet.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you will paying quite a price for exterminating.

Prevention is the best policy with pets. Good Luck to you.
Reply:I think the medications the vet has for parasites will kill fleas as they suck the blood. If this is the case, then each flea on the cat will die as it feeds. A very good solution. I understand that you are having trouble with baths, but if you can give him one more bath, try using water with dish soap in it. Dish soap kills fleas, and it can even be used on small kittens, and is actually the only thing you can safely use on small kittens. A flea comb for the remaining fleas will work on a daily basis, and will be the best thing for the face, paying special attention around the ears. Have a cup of water with dish soap in it nearby. As you groom the face, dip the comb in the soapy water to kill the fleas as you go, so they don't jump back to the cat. Any time you put flea preparations on the body and can't treat the face the fleas migrate to the face, so it is important to use the flea comb on a daily basis until they are gone and no more hatch. But really try the vet - they know the very best medications for your poor kitty.
Reply:Get Advantage or Frontline and put it on your cat as directed. flea baths ore not going to help because the fleas are in your carpet and everywhere else and the Frontline keeps working for a month of more. make sure you get the puppy too. You must keep using it on schedule. The fleas are not just on the cats face that is just where you can see them the best. Sounds like your cat also has ringworm which is a fungus. You need to take your animals to a vet and get medication for that. Call around and ask for prices. It should be pretty inexpensive. 7 or 8 bucks for the Frontline and 10 or so for the ringworm medication. Take proper precautions to ensure your animals do not get so infested before you decide to do anything about it. Take care of them, they count on you.
Reply:Let your vet deal with him and the puppy while you have the house and yard sprayed.

Flea bombs for the house really don't work that well..it's best to have it done by professionals.

Even if you didn't have pets..you can bring the fleas in on your shoes and clothes..you'll needto spray the inside of your car also.

Good luck
